Our next stop on our journey was Boone, NC. It is apart of the Blue Ridge Parkway on the Appalachian Mountain Range. Being on a mountain it makes it hard to reach, so no big industries can really flourish there. The main industry is tourism and small businesses. People in Boone live in small apartment buildings or small town houses. While we were there we visited the Appalachian campus. Boone is a small city in the mountains. Most people in Boone run there own business, and drive to work.

Region: Coastal Plains
County: New Hanover
City/Town: Wilmington

During our journey our next stop was Wilmington in New Hanover Country. Wilmington is famous for their international trade. They hold the biggest port in North Carolina. Most people in Wilmington are involved in trade. The location of Wilmington is ideal for trade because of the surrounding water. The people of Wilmington can choose to either live in the city apartments or the suburban neighborhoods surrounding the city. Some of the attractions in Wilmington are the Cape Fear Museum, the docked battleships, and the boardwalk that runs along the coast of the city.

Region: Coastal Plain
County: Dare
City/Town: Avon

During our journey across North Carolina, Avon was our first stop. Avon is a small town and is sparsely populated. Avon's main industry is tourism so it seemed like the perfect place to go. We had to board a ferry to get there. Avon is a small island along the Outer Banks. Due to its location along the outer banks and its flat land, the people in Avon live through many hurricanes and floods. Cape Hatteras lighthouse is located in Avon so we took a tour of the lighthouse. During our tour of the lighthouse we learned that in the summer of 1999 as the ever encroaching waters of the Atlantic Ocean threatened this reliable structure, the Cape Hatteras lighthouse was moved from its original location. Many people in Avon work as real estate agents and many people are retired. We both really enjoyed our trip to Avon and would defiantly go back.
